Biomechanics applies the principles of mechanics to human movement. Biomechanics incorporates the concepts of engineering and physics in order to understand normal and relative motion, physical performance, and mechanisms of injury.
If you have difficulty moving or you experience pain during movement you are a candidate for biomechanical evaluations. The evaluation will help determine if your abnormal movement is a contributing factor to your symptoms. An evaluation can be very helpful when conventional forms of treatment have failed such as surgery medications, physical therapy and so on.
An evaluation will help assess your joints (their position, range of motion, and functional ability).
Injuries are often caused by poor biomechanics. For example runners and athletes whose sports require a high level of running and jumping should make sure they have had an evaluation to assess proper gait and footwear to prevent injury.
The following is a list of common injuries caused by poor biomechanics.
Biomechanical testing will help identify the root cause or causes of your pain. It can also identify problems before they become more serious. Focusing on the cause of your pain rather than just treating the symptoms of pain is the most effective way of eliminating the cause of your pain and providing long term relief.
